The Request
TU Simple needed a solution to mount two large, 5” deep metal can front-lit logos over two massive SEG walls measuring 80’W x 20’H. The challenge was to ensure the logos could be installed without damaging the SEG graphics, while minimizing the labor crew needed for the installation. The 58.5” x 58.5” logo "bugs" with acrylic faces presented an additional challenge due to their substantial size and weight.
The Challenge
Traditional mounting methods posed several obstacles:
• Preserving Fabric Integrity: Avoiding visible damage or large holes in the SEG graphics while securely mounting heavy elements.
• Size and Weight: The significant size and weight of the metal logo bugs required a robust and secure mounting system.
• Labor Reduction: Minimizing the need for a large labor crew to reduce installation time and costs.
• Clean Power Integration: Routing power for front-lit illumination without visible wires or bulky hardware detracting from the sleek booth design.
The Idea
The Magnalign Anchor SEGConnects were the starting point for this project, offering a magnetic solution to align and power the heavy 3D logos. However, given the size and weight of the elements, additional custom modifications were needed to ensure stability and security.
Collaborating closely with Exhibit Fabricator team and their signage and graphic partners, Magnalign developed a custom T-nut solution to reinforce the mounting process for the oversized logos. This innovation not only addressed the immediate needs of the project but also inspired the development of the Magnalign Cleats—a product designed specifically to handle larger, heavier elements while maintaining Magnalign’s patented precision and simplicity.
The Solution
Working hand-in-hand with our clients and their signage and graphics partners, the Magnalign Anchor SEGConnects were seamlessly integrated into the build, enhanced by the T-nut reinforcements.
Shop Preparation
1 Custom Integration:
The logos were fitted with Anchor SEGConnect magnetic cups and T-nuts to ensure perfect alignment and power connectivity.
Backer standoffs were securely mounted to the ¾” plywood backers within the frame structures, with pre-installed wiring routed through the standoffs to power the lighting.
2 Cleat Development:
Drawing on the challenges of this project, Magnalign designed the Magnalign Cleats, which provide the secure connections needed for larger, heavier elements while maintaining the ease of use and patented magnetic alignment.
On-Site Installation
1 SEG Graphic Setup:
The SEG graphics were installed on the exterior structure, with precision cuts for the small, inconspicuous holes required for the Anchor SEGConnects and T-nuts.
2 Logo Installation:
Anchor Centers were screwed in after the SEG graphics were in place.
The 3D logos were snapped into place, automatically aligning perfectly due to the magnetic connection provided by the Anchor SEGConnects.
To secure the heavy logos, bolts were added from the back side using the T-nuts, providing additional structural integrity.
3 Power Integration:
Power was seamlessly routed through the Anchor SEGConnects, ensuring flawless illumination without any visible wiring or bulky hardware.
Result
The entire on-site installation process was completed in under four hours with a minimal labor crew, setting a new standard for efficiency in handling large, illuminated signage.
